The Psychoanalytic Studies Program (PSP)

alt

The Psychoanalytic Studies Program is a two-year program of The Washington Center for Psychoanalysis. By creatively combining three formerly separate programs of the Center -- Psychoanalytic Training, Psychotherapy Training and the Scholars Program -- we believe we have created a psychoanalytic educational experience for the twenty-first century. The PSP brings to life the mission of the Center, which is to create a community of psychoanalytic clinicians, scholars and others interested in psychoanalysis as a treatment modality, as a theory of mind and as a tool for psychoanalytic research.

Program Features:

  • PSP is a two-year program of three classes one evening a week. Our new curriculum is a creative and in depth exploration organized around essential concepts in psychoanalysis that can be understood from multiple perspectives. The program consists of three elements:

    • Didactic education in psychoanalytic theory of the mind and its application to the clinical situation

    • Ongoing continuing case conferences for both psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis

    • Facilitating the student’s capacity for deepening self awareness

      • Mother/infant observation program

      • Individual supervision

      • Personal psychotherapy or psychoanalysis

  • Psychoanalytic scholars will be available locally and nationally to work with students with scholarly interests.

  • For individuals interested in becoming clinical psychoanalysts, PSP will be credited as the first two years of the four and a half didactic years of psychoanalytic training.

  • Thirty weeks of classes per year, held from 4:00 to 8:15pm on Tuesdays

  • Program can be taken full or part-time
